5th January 2016, Latest reports from Somalia indicate that a gang of unidentified gunmen attacked a building housing Turkish nationals.
According to resident reports, the heavily armed gunmen raided the compound on Monday which is located near Mogadishu airport prompting fierce exchange of gunfire between the security personnel manning the area and the assailants.
One attacker was killed and a security officer was wounded in the attack. The unknown gunmen reportedly sped-off using a mini-van after they were overpowered by the security officers.
Turkish diplomatic establishment, citizens and interests in Somalia have repeatedly been targeted by Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen fighters.
Last week Friday, a Turkish citizen who works for a construction company was attacked as he was leaving a Mosque after Friday prayers by unknown gunmen who sped-off in a car.

These kind of hit and run attacks are linked to the Al Shabaab militant group that is fighting to topple the International backed government to impose strict Islamist sharia law. The militants also target foreign installations and workers.
