The U.S. military conducted an airstrike targeting Al-Shabaab in the vicinity of Qunyo Barrow, Somalia, killing a militant on August 20, 2019.
U.S. Africa Command in a statement confirmed of the airstrike carried out Tuesday in co-ordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.
The command says it appears that no civilians were wounded or killed in the strike.
According to the director of operations for U.S. Africa Command, Army Maj. Gen. William Gayler, the airstrikes are aimed at mounting pressure on Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Shabaab.
He also added that persistent pressure limits militants’ freedom of movement, creates confusion within the network, and thus supports Somali partners campaigns against terrorist groups.
