
Following an intelligence lead, anti-terror police raided two houses believed to be a den used for recruitment and plotting of terror attacks.
Police killed terror suspect identified as Rashid Sultan. The gunned suspect reportedly had a gun and had blocked police officers from accessing one of the houses.
During the search, police found jihadist materials, 18 photocopies of IDs and 15 passports size photos of youths. The youths are believed to have joined the Somali-based terror group Al-Shabaab or are on recruitment process.
A pistol, 15 bullets, six mobile phones and a laptop were also seized.
Among the arrested was a wanted terror suspect identified as Abdullaziz Ali from Majengo area Abdullaziz Ali is facing attempted murder and terror-related charges.
During the shootout, an officer was shot in the left hand and chest and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa.
According to regional police boss Francis Wanjohi, security has been heightened in the coastal region to prevent attacks by al Shabaab militants during the holy month of Ramadan.
