Algerian army has thwarted a major bomb attack that was targeted on a mall in Setif, southeast of the capital Algiers.
According to a report on state-run news El Massa, the attack was planned by a terrorist group in which eight of its fighters were killed in a military raid on May 31 near Guelta Zerka, 40 km east of Setif.
Security sources link the attackers to the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS/ISIL) which has already established foothold in Libya.
The Park Mall at Setif is located some 300kilometers southeast of Algiers and attracts about 5,000 visitors a day, the paper El Massa said.
The militants believed to have planned to carry out the attack during the month of Ramadan which began on June 6.
Islamist armed groups remain active in the east and south of the country and mainly target security forces.
