The chairman of Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) Omar Mwamnuadzi has been charged for fuelling secessionist ideologies to at a Kwale Court of Law.
The leader of the land militant group MRC was arrested on Sunday night (24th January 2016) at his home in Ng’ombeni.
Mwamnuadzi appeared before Kwale Resident Magistrate Paul Mutai to face three charges linked to illegal activities by the group among the being a member of the outlawed group.
The MRC chairman was also accused of contributing and receiving money (Sh 200,000) with purposes of advancing MRC illegal activities in the coastal region.
The third charge accuses Mwamnuadzi of possessing an article bearing words “Pwani si Kenya” allegedly insinuating Mombasa is not part of Kenya.
The MRC leader was also accused of contributing and receiving money, 200,000 shillings, with the purposes of advancing MRC activities in the coastal region.
The prosecution claims the words are meant to incite violence by coastal people against the government and the republic of Kenya.
The MRC leader however denied all the three charges and was remanded for five days to allow police conduct further investigations on the matter.
The case will be mentioned on the 29th of January 2016.
