February 3, 2016: Kenya’s National Intelligence Service in collaboration with the Mombasa Police has uncovered a link between a Mombasa legislator and a criminal gang operating in Kisauni.
The said legislator is said to be a financier of the Wakali Kwanza gang that has been terrorizing residents with violent robberies and machete-murders.
The NIS intercepted communication between the unnamed politician and gang members of the Wakali gang that has two splinter groups; Wakali Wao and Wakali Kweli that targets mainly Mishomoroni, Kisauni and Kongowea.
According to the intercepted communication, the politician has been mobilizing and ferrying youth from different places to attack residents. According to OSINT reports the legislator and other financiers intend to use the gang to stir violence in the area.
Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa has however vowed to quash the gang’s and completely eradicate it alongside its financiers and sympathizers as well as arrested any and all financiers including the legislator.
