A commercial airliner made an emergency landing on Tuesday 2nd February 2016 at Mogadishu International Airport.
According to corresponding reports by officials and witnesses, a loud bang was heard and a fire broke out on board leaving a hole in the fuselage casing the plane to make the emergency landing.
Two people sustained slight injuries as 74 passengers and plane crew were safely evacuated.
According to Somali aviation official Ali Mohamoud the plane operated by Daallo Airlines and destined to Djibouti was forced to make emergency landing minutes after taking off from the Mogadishu airport.
Awale Kullane, Somalia’s alternate ambassador to the U.N. was on board the plane was going to Djibouti to attend a conference for diplomats confirmed the incident saying “heard a loud noise and couldn’t see anything but smoke for a few seconds.”
Investigation on what caused the gaping hole on the fuselage is underway and no one or group has claimed responsibility though the Somali based Islamist group Al-Shabaab has attempted to down passenger planes especially targeting key government officials.
