Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud while speaking in Addis Ababa Ethiopia in the recently concluded African Union Summit expressed confident in AMISOM mandate in fighting the Islamist Al-Shabaab terrorist group and stabilizing Somalia.
President Hassan urged East African leaders to unite and deploy contingents to turmoil-hit Burundi which also takes part in maintaining peace in Somalia under AMISOM.
Somali president pointed out that AU peacekeeping forces are involved in various missions with United Nations saying the forces are capable only requires enough capitations.
According to Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) should be strengthened with maritime and air power to boost their anti-terror operations.
President Kenyatta told African Union Peace and Security Council that hardened terrorists are trying to impede Somalia’s progress but will be defeated.
Kenya contribute over 4,000 soldiers to the AMISOM forces which now stand over 22,000 strong AU forces supporting Somali National Army (SNA) in the fight against militants in central and southern Somalia.
