February 3, 2016: 5 al Shabaab suspects were arrested on February 2nd in Komarock and Kayole residential estates of Nairobi County as they went around recruiting for the Somalia-based al Qaeda affiliate.
Of the suspects arrested, two were Kenyans while the other three were of Somali origin and were caught as they bargained of the amount they would receive for the recruitment following a public tipoff to the police.
They hid their agenda behind offering their unaware youth of job opportunities available in Somalia and the NEP. According to investigations the five had already made necessary transportations means for the unknowingly recruited youth to Somalia.
Embakasi Police boss said that the suspects said they expected to be paid KSH87, 000 for the recruitment. This comes barely a day after trucks of NGOs suspected to carry supplies to the militia group.
