February 3, 2016: Kenyan authorities have warned against circulation of leaflets of messages of Impending attack in the NEP-Mandera County by the al Shabaab.
Al Shabaab sympathizers and people seeking to instill fear in the people of Mandera County have been circulating the leaflets and messages on social media that have stirred fear among NGOs and other non-natives of the county working in the area.
Despite the al Shabaab seeming to have change tact, the security forces have psycho-analyzed their behavior and have adapted strategies to combat and avert any imminent attacks and threats posed by the militant.
Mandera County Commissioner Fredrick Shisia attributed the root-cause of the said messages to the increased military and police presence in the area to beef-up security which has been misinterpreted by misguided people to translate to a looming threat.
He however urged residents to cooperate with the security officer conducting reconnaissance and patrolling the area by volunteering information that will lead to the arrest of any militants that might have crossed over to Kenya and or their sympathizers living among them.
Earlier in the month an additional deployment of security officers was deployed to Kenya-Somalia border in Mandera to beef up security in the area.
