A vehicle belonging to Kenya Power Company was slightly damaged when a roadside explosive device (RIED) exploded along Rhamu-Elwak road Monday, 15th July 2019.
The Toyota Land Cruiser was slightly damaged but the driver was not injured, Lafey Deputy County Commissioner confirmed.
Reports provided show that the driver was alone in the vehicle and was headed to Takaba from Mandera town along the newly tarmacked Rhamu-Elwak road. The driver reported that he saw a suspicious heap of soil on the road and as he swerved the vehicle it exploded.
The explosion shuttered the vehicle windscreen and caused a tyre burst. The driver managed the situation and reached the nearest police station.
Security agencies are faced by the increasing IED threat along the newly tarmacked Mandera-Rhamu-Elwak road as well as others major supply and patrol routes in counties neighboring Somalia.
