Canada through its Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau vowed to work closely with Somalia in an effort eradicate terrorism and violent extremism.
The PM announcement comes just a few days after terror a controversial Al-Shabaab attack at a popular hotel in Kismayu killed dozens of people. Among those killed was Somalia-Canadian Journalists.
A Somali lawmaker, Hassan Abdi Osmail Hassan has accused the Federal government of being involved in the suicide and gun attack on hotel in Kismayo, a town lies some 500km south of the capital Mogadishu.
PM Justin Trudeau on his part offered condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Hodan Nalayeh, a Somali-Canadian journalist who, together with her husband Farid, was killed in the terrorist attack. He condemned the heinous acts of terrorists. He highlighted of Ms. Nalayeh’s work that showcased positive, uplifting, and inspiring Somali stories.
Trudeau reiterated of Canada’s commitment in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism and promised that his country will continue working with Somalia and other international partners to address the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism.
Other world leaders including the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat have so far united in condemning the Saturday hotel terror attack which left nearly 30 people dead and 56 others wounded in Kismayo.
