Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have conducted airstrikes targeting an al Shabaab camp outside of El-Wak, a frontier town along the Kenya-Somali border killing eight militants.
The Kenyan forces deployed 2 Attack/gunship helicopters to the location bombarding a makeshift camp inhabited by al Shabaab terrorists. The base was used by the militants to mount attacks against both civilian and military targets along the Kenya-Somalia border.
The airstrikes were retaliation for an IED attack on an army reconnaissance and patrol unit on Wednesday where two soldiers were killed.
KDF has increased its presence in country’s northern, eastern region a move set to enhance security in the region as well as neutralize al Shabaab fighters crossing into Kenya and conducting indiscriminate attacks. In recent months, dozens of al Shabaab militants have been killed and arrested by the security forces in the region.
