Islamic State (ISIS) affiliated faction of the al Shabaab has issued a statement claiming that the group killed a Puntland Police officer in Basaso Puntland as well as Somali Intelligence Agency NISA in Afgoye.
This is the 5th such attack by the Islamic States terror group in Somalia. The Islamic States cells in the Bali prefecture of the Puntland region have significantly increased attacks in the area.
Former Al-Shabaab leader Sheikh Abdikadir Muumin leads the terror group. ISIS in Somalia is said to be primarily operational in Puntland after the group split from the al Qaeda affiliated parent group.
The attacks though small scale are meant to show the terror group is active and attract funding from the parent group in Syria and Iraq which is on the verge of being completely eradicated by the numerous campaigns in the region.
US airstrikes and AMISOM troops have intensified the fight against the al Shabaab militants both affiliated to ISIS or Al Qaeda by interrupting the financial and technical frameworks which have rendered the groups desperate for weaponry, food, and money to fund their daily operations including recruitment.
