The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) received military vehicles and other equipment from the People’s Republic of China.
On March 30. The Kenya Army at Kahawa Garrison in Nairobi received the Military Aid Gratis ranging from military vehicles and assortment of engineering equipment.
Government official from the Defense Ministry were present to receive the military hardware. Kenya’s Defense Cabinet Secretary thanked China for the continued support to Kenya and noted of significant milestone in the defense relation between the two countries.
CS Defense noted that the vehicles and engineering equipment will boost the capability of KDF troops in the conduct of their mandate within and outside the confines of Kenyan borders. He underscored that the capacity of KDF to protect the sovereignty of the country lies with its personnel and military equipment.
Further, a highly motivated soldier coupled with the requisite tools of trade will endeavor to complete the assigned mission irrespective of the operating environment, the CS added. He also noted that China’s support will enhance troops’ morale and mission readiness.
On his part the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, His Excellency Zhou Pingjian reiterated of China-Kenya relations that has existed for centuries. He highlighted of the good working relationship in various sectors including that of the military.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Army Commander and General Officer Commanding Eastern Command Major General Ayub Matiiri appreciated the military support in form of high-quality military vehicles and equipment handed over by China to the Kenya Army. He thanked China for continuous support, noting that the military aid gratis was a great milestone in supporting the KDF to sharpen the arrowhead as per the Chief of Defense Forces Strategic Vision in enhancing KDF mission readiness.
The Chinese military donation to Kenya came just days after the Chinese government made a similar donation to the Somali government, in a renewed push to boost the country’s war against terrorism.
