The Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) killed at least 28 people before kidnapping several others during their new attack in the locality of Masambo, located more or less 40km from the border town of Kasindi, in the Basongora grouping of the Rwenzori sector, Beni in the province of North Kivu.
Among those killed was a Congolese soldier and the militants are believed to have fled towards a mountainous region which pairs with the intelligence that the militants have been exploiting their familiarity with the terrain to evade capture by the security forces.
Further, the initial death toll was 12 but was revised upwards after preliminary investigations which also revealed that some of the victims were beheaded with machetes which is a known MO of the militants in Beni. The terrorists also burned down a dozen houses and looted the property of the population, in particular medicines in a pharmacy.
Despite the Ugandan-Congolese allied troops’ offensive in North Kivu and Ituri Provinces, ISCAP continues with their violent campaign with very small losses on their side and has been seeking international headlines since they swore allegiance to the newly minted leaders.
