3 Mozambican soldiers were killed in a terror attack orchestrated by Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) militants in Mandimba village the district of Nangade in Cabo Delgado Province.
The attack which happened in the late afternoon targeted the village which has significant military presence and preliminary intelligence indicates that the soldiers were the primary target of the attack.
The attack appears to be contradicting the military stance and announcement where they have maintained that the Nangade is safe and calm has returned. The reality on the ground is that most of the villages in the district are empty due the continued assaults by the terror organization. The attack on the military is in line with the growing trend of the militants to attack the local military for spoils and weaponry.
As various allies to Mozambique continue to pledge and send support to the military in Cabo Delgado, the terror organization has been exploiting the yet to be well-trained military to acquire military-grade weapons as well as uniforms which are later used in attacks as was the case in last month’s attacks on Matemo Islands.
