Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), a contingent operating in Somalia under the mandate of AMISOM killed more than 10 terror operatives of the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM) in general locality of Bardere, Gedo region of Somalia.
Heavy exchange of gunfire that lasted for about three hours ensued when Al-Shabaab operatives ambushed KDF army soldiers who were patrolling Galgishe area of Dirileey and Dhusamareb in pacification mission of Gedo region.
More than ten Al-Shabaab militants were killed and two KDF soldiers injured. Kenya Defence Forces deployed Airforce bombers targeting reinforcements deployed from Bardere by the terror group.
Initial BDA from Military Intelligence confirms that Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM) militants suffered huge losses including tactical vehicles being destroyed and other light weaponry including AK47 rifles being recovered by KDF.
