At least five al Shabaab militants were killed by Somali National Army after a heavy fire erupted between the two sides in Gedo region. SNA carried out an operation against the militants in the southwestern region of the country following last weeks twin bombing in the nation’s capital.
Deputy Governor of Gedo region, Sheikh Mohamed Hussein said that the forces killed five armed terrorists and managed to clear several hideouts used by the militants.
Al Shabaab has been scrambling to rural areas and towns following the increased efforts and targeted attacks by SNA, AMISOM and US airstrikes that have been undermining the group’s operational capability across the nation.
