Horn Petroleum Corp., Vancouver, BC, reports that its Shableel 1 well in the Dharoor Valley in Puntland, Somalia has two potential pay zones that confirm a working petroleum system.
Horn Petroleum Corp operates Shabeel with 60% working interest in the Dharoor and Nugaal permits where it has strategic partners Range Resources Ltd. and Red Emperor Resources NL with 20% stake each.
Shableel 1 encountered potential net pay sands in the Jurassic Adigrat formation at 3,246-3,430 m, several of which exhibited oil and gas shows.
According to Horn Petroleum Corp log analysis shows that there is up to 3 m of potential hydrocarbon pay in several thin sand units.
Horn also reported that it will move the the rig to the Shabeel North location 3.5 km north to evaluate the Jesomma oil bearing sands then return to Shabeel to test the Jesomma once test equipment arrives in Somalia.
