BARAWE, AFGOOYE Somalia, March 16, 2016
Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that at least 20 people linked to Al-Shabaab terrorist group have been rounded up in separate security operations in the latest mop-up operations by Somali forces in Lower Shabelle region.
The security operations were launched following grenade explosion claimed by Al-Shabaab on Sunday, which targeted government troops in the areas.
On Monday 14th March 2016, the army crackdown took place in Barawe, Afgooye and Marko towns.
According to Ali Noor, the deputy governor of Lower Shabelle region, the army and police launched joint manhunt operations and will continue the routine operations to preempt/neutralize impending Al-Shabaab attacks and insecurity activities in the region.
The mop-up operations came after the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab carried bomb attacks targeting Somali troops and AMISOM in several towns in Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia.
