The Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) attacked Beu Manyama village in Beni during the dawn attack. The current death toll stands at at least thirty-seven and many others injured. Beu Manyama is located 20Km north of the town of Mamove in Beni territory, North Kivu.
As is the MO of ISCAP in DRC, the victims had either been hacked to death with machetes, stabbed with knives, or shot to death. Intelligence also indicates that of the victims at least 16 of them were held hostage and used as human shields before they were hacked to death in the neighboring village. ISCAP has been kidnapping civilians after attacks and using them as human shields before killing them to evade the Congolese and Ugandan troops who have been conducting CT Ops in North Kivu and Ituri Provinces.
The Congolese troops pursued and killed at least 7 terrorists and recovered two AK47 weapons as well as arrested one of the terrorists who is expected to give insight into the movements of the group.
The UN Mission of Stabilization in the DRC (MONUSCO) has sent attack helicopters and manned foot patrols into the country’s strife-torn North Kivu province following a spike of attacks in the past week.
