At least sixteen people were killed, seven others wounded and at least 6 vehicles were razed to the ground following an attack by militants belonging to the Islamic State Central Africa (ISCAP). The attack occurred in the commune of Bulongo, in the Ruwenzori sector, on the Beni-Kasindi road in Beni.
According to residents, while some of the victims were burned to death the others were dragged from their homes and executed after which their homes were ransacked for food and other supplies.
The past couple of days has seen a spike in attacks by the organization with the brutality and frequency of the attacks increasing. The increase is despite the enhanced presence of allied troops as well as UN peacekeepers. DRC rebels were put on notice after the nation was admitted into the East Africa Community and talks to end violence in the eastern region commenced in Nairobi.
