Somali National Amy launched an operation against targets held by Al Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab targets in different locations in Hiiraan region. The military forces carried out the operations in villages where believed to be hideouts of the militant group of Al Shabaab, according to Somali military.
At least 168 militants have been confirmed to have been killed in the operation that was coordinated by the militaries and regional security forces. according to military sources, the operation was conducted in the villages of Mubah, El-Ali, Yasoman and other areas of the region.
Al Shabaab has for the longest time had hideouts and training camps in Hiiraan region and as such the blow is quite substantial seeing as weapons were recovered and several camps decimated.
