Police initial investigation on three students arrested by Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) last week indicate that they were on mission to cross over to Somalia to join the Islamist group Al-Shabaab.
The three who are aged 17, 16 and 15 were intercepted and arrested by ATPU in a bus in Ngaremara along the Isiolo-Marsabit highway.
Speaking on Thursday, Isiolo Police Commander Charles Ontita said that investigation revealed that the students who are from a Secondary school in Eastleigh in Nairobi.
The three were heading to Somalia through Wajir for recruitment into the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab but were intercepted and apprehended by ATPU, Ontita added.
One of the suspect hails from Wajir another Garissa and the third one’s home is yet to be known.
On Wednesday, an Isiolo court granted police 30 days to complete the probe over possible terror links.
The three claimed were heading to a funeral in Mandera.
Detectives are currently questioning several people believed to be recruiting young people in Isiolo to Al-Shabaab.
