Tuesday 28th June 2016, police drawn from the anti-terror unit and elite squad arrested suspected Al-Shabaab fighters in the coastal town of Malindi and recovered assortment of weapons.
The suspect identified as Abdulfatah Twahir was arrested by a team of anti-terrorism and elite squad officers.
Several weapons recovered include, a hand grenade, two detonators, ten safe pins, chemicals for manufacturing Improvised explosive devices
Also seized included, jihad materials/literature and cash in Kenyan currency, pounds and U.S. dollars.
Briefing media journalists, Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa revealed that police officers carried out a successful intelligence-led operation in a house in Majengo.
According to Marwa, the recovered M-4 rifle was snatched from a navy officer who was killed during the February 2014 raid at Nyali barracks by suspected separatists of the Mombasa Republic Council (MRC).
A G-rifle also stolen from police officers killed by suspected Al-Shabaab returnees while guarding Gulf Bank in Mombasa in October 2014, was also among the weapons recovered, Marwa added.
Also impounded, total 318 bullets, 9mm ammunition used by pistol, 11 mobile phones, pistol oil cleaner and SIM cards.
Four suspects who were in the house managed to escape.
Police on Tuesday released photographs of the four terror suspects, Kassim Mohammed, Hussein Omar Said, Mohammed Salim, and Ishmael Shosi.
Police called on members of the public to volunteer with any information that may lead to their arrest.
