Egyptian armed and air forces announced that they had targeted Nasser Abu Zaqul, the leader of Wilayat Sinai, the Daesh-affiliated group (ISIS) which operates in the Sinai Peninsula.
The ground armed forces supported by their air force troops raided a number of mountainous areas in Sinai as part of wide-scale operation in renewed efforts to tighten control over terrorists’ activities in the area.
According to military statement the operation resulted in the death over a dozen combatants including their leader, Abu Zaqul after a heavy exchange of fire.
Last Saturday, Egyptian air force struck “terrorist concentrations and hideouts” in northern and central Sinai through the night and into the early hours of Sunday, targeting weapons warehouses and logistics support areas.
