Syrian-born German said to be responsible for recruiting some of the 9/11 hijackers has been arrested by anti-ISIS forces in Syria. Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured the detainee, identified as Mohammed Haydar Zammar.
Zammar, who is his mid-fifties, was apprehended in northern Syria and was being interrogated and is infamous for helping plan the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.
Zammar is said to have fled Germany after the attack in the US relocating to Morocco from where he was arrested and handed over to Syria, sentenced to 12 years in jail. He was released from prison after the Syrian civil war broke out in the region and most hardline jihadists and Islamists were released. Zammar, among many others, was believed to have joined the Islamic State terror group.
