British police have arrested five people in a major counter terrorism operation which is a part of an investigation involving Belgian and French authorities.
Three men aged between 26 and 59 and a woman aged 29 years were arrested by the police in Birmingham, Britain’s second-largest city, on Thursday 14th April 2016 night.
Friday 15th April 2016, another man aged 26 was nabbed in London’s Gatwick Airport early in morning.
According to Marcus Beale, the chief counter terrorism officer in the West Midlands area of England revealed that a number of properties in Birmingham were being searched as part of the investigation.
Beale also confirmed that the arrests were pre-planned and intelligence-led saying there was no risk to the public at any time and there is no information to suggest an attack in the U.K. was being planned.
In his statement, he added that all five terror suspects were being questioned by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU) officers.
