The residents of Buq-Gosar located about 50 Km west of Beledweyne town in Hiiraan region killed at least five al Shabaab militants in a botched attack by the jihadists.
A fight broke between the locals and the militants after the al Shabaab terrorists attempted to take over the town triggering a battle that saw five al Shabaab militants killed and a dozen others injured.
Locals in different parts of Somalia have been mounting a strong resistance against al Shabaab militants attempting to take control of their villages and towns. Additionally, in recent months there is increased cooperation between the locals and government and allied forces to root out extremist elements in the society.
