Al-Shabaab conducted 2 terror attacks in North Eastern Kenya on Monday 20th June 2016 targeting security personnel escorting a passenger bus at Mandera and a government ambulance in Hulughow area in Garissa County.
5 Police officers died when their Toyota Land cruiser vehicle was bombed with a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) fired by Al-Shabaab elements hiding in bushes along the road. The police vehicle was completely damaged.
An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated and destroyed a government of Kenya ambulance (MOH) along Sangailu-Hulughow road in Garissa County in north Eastern province of Kenya (NEP).
The driver Abey Dubow was killed in the attack. An army outpost in Hulughow quickly deployed in the area.
These 2 attacks indicates the Al-Qaeda affiliate in Somalia, Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen movement (HSM) has increased attacks targeting government officials unlike in the past where they escalated attacks against civillian targets.
