The United States has issued a warning of a possible terror attack targeting expatriates and international visitors in the country’s largest city of Lagos during the celebrations to mark the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
According to a message posted on the US Embassy website, the US mission in Nigeria warned that groups linked with terrorists activity might be planning attacks against hotels in Lagos frequented by international visitors, especially those located on waterfronts, during Eid-ul-Fitr festivities.
Nigeria marks the end of the holy month Ramadan on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lagos is a highly populated city with about 20 million people and has always been relatively spared by the violence in the north and north-eastern of Nigeria infiltrated by the Islamist group Boko Haram.
