The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has announced that it conducted two airstrikes against al Shabaab militants in the vicinity of Jilib in southern Somalia. At least two al Shabaab terrorists were killed in the operations that did not have any civilian casualties.
In the statement released, AFRICOM said the strike took place on a camp near Jilib district, the main rebel stronghold in Middle Jubba region on June 16.
The United States military carries out regular air raids in Somalia to assist Somali troops who have been fighting against an Al-Shabab rebellion for years. The airstrikes have increased especially this year with targets not limited to al Shabaab in Middle and Southern Somalia but also ISS in northern areas regions.
