Ugandan Military Chief, General David Muhoozi visit to Mogadishu is a morale booster to UPDF-AMISOM troops battling the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
The General arrived in Mogadishu on Friday and lauded AMISOM troops for their selfless contribution in battling Al-Shabaab that has been fighting to topple the Somali government for over a decade.
UPDFs Chief of the Defense Forces (CDF) also thanked AU troops for extending the ‘frontiers of peace and liberation, and fostering development’ in Somalia.
He noted the resilience of Al-Shabaab saying it will eventually be outmatched by the resilience of the troops in AMISOM and all the TCCs (troop contributing countries).
The General who is Somalia on a routine visit to Ugandan troops deployed in the country also held talks with Francisco Madeira, the AU Special Representative for Somalia and head of AMISOM.
The two hailed troops from all the troops contributing countries to AMISOM and for their efforts in degrading Al-Shabaab extremists.
In his remarks, the Uganda CDF also paid tribute to the troops who bravely fought Al-Shabaab militants in a recent ambush in Goryowein, in Lower Shabelle region.
The two also discussed planned joint military operations with the Somali security forces to dismantle tax collection points by Al-Shabaab and to liberate and pacify the remaining regions under the control of Al-Shabaab and ISIS faction in northern Somalia.
