Puntland Security Forces (PSF) on Saturday said they had foiled an attack by Al-Shabaab that targeted Puntland operating bases in Galgala mountains.
PSF source indicate that the forces carried out an operation in the areas of Diindigle and Madarshoon, targeting a group of over 60 Al-Shabaab fighters who were planning to stage an ambush on army bases of Puntland in Galgala, Balikadar and Karin.
PSF said it has killed 13 Al-Shabaab fighters in the operation, and destroyed the group’s hideouts in the volatile mountainous area.
Puntland government forces and Al-Shabaab militants have been fighting in Galgala mountains since 2010.
