The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has deployed a new battle contingent to serve under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The new battle group which arrived in Somalia on Sunday 17th July 2016 dubbed UGABAG XIX replaces another battle group UGABAG XVI, which has completed a one-year tour of duty in Somalia under AMISOM.
Uganda is one of the troop contributing countries in Somalia with over 6,700 soldiers. Other AMISOM contributing countries include Kenya, Burundi, Djibouti and Ethiopia.

The new battle group will be deployed in Lower Shabelle region in Somalia under Colonel Anthony Mbuusi Lukwago.
Uganda contingent commander Brig. Sam Okiding saluted the out-going battle group saying they have achieved milestones against Al-Shabaab.
He also welcomed the new battle group saying they are very good battalion confident they take up the challenge against Al-Shabaab.
