AMISOM troops in southern Somalia are on high alert after several attempted attacks at their bases located in different towns of the region. Security reports indicate that al Shabaab militants attempted a raid at two AMISOM bases belonging to Uganda’s People Defense Forces and Ethiopian troops.
The militants were repelled of a UPDF base in Ambreso town, near Barawe in Lower Shabelle region and Ethiopian AMISOM base at the Bardhere airport in Bardhere, Gedo region. While the al Shabaab militants were seeking to replenish their weaponry, they were met with lethal force, and several casualties inflicted on the enemy side.
Moreover, al Shabaab has resulted to social media to propagate their exaggerated and nonexistent conquests against the AMISOM troops and which echoes the desperate to ensure that they remain relevant. In recent weeks al Shabaab has suffered major losses as AMISOM, SNA and US troops intensify the campaign against the Jihadists.
