The U.S. conducted fresh airstrike in support of the Somali army killing two (2) Al-Shabaab militants.
In coordination with Federal government of Somalia forces, the U.S. forces carried out the air bombardment targeting Al-Shabaab militants about 46 kilometers northeast of Kismayo, Somalia, on August 21, killing the two terror combatants.
According to a statement by AFRICOM, there were no civilians killed or injured in the precision strike that was intelligence led.
U.S. and Kenyan troops in Somalia continue to carryout air sorties against the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat al-Shabaab al Mujahideen (HSM).
The U.S. which has carried out 20 such strikes this year against the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab has maintained it stand that it will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect its citizens, its interests and to disable terrorists’ threats. Since late last year, U.S. also has carried out several drone strikes against a small presence of fighters linked to the Islamic State (IS) organization in the northern part of the Horn of Africa nation.
In collaboration with AMISOM and Somali National Army (SNA), U.S. counterterrorism operations target terrorists, their training camps, and their safe havens across all regions of Somalia.
