Latest military intelligence briefs from Somalia indicate that U.S. in support airstrike in support of the Federal government of Somalia conduct another airstrike targeting the Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab in vicinity of Jilib, Middle Juba region of Somalia.
U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a statement confirmed of the airstrike that was conducted on June 24, 2019. The statement showed that a senior Al-Shabaab commander was killed in the airstrike.
The strike was conducted within Jilib town, southern Somalia, not far from where two other commanders were killed on Sunday morning. Jilib has been under Al-Shabaab control for years now.
In an effort to disrupt and degrade the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab, the U.S. military force has carried out at many airstrikes this year against, Africa’s most active Islamic extremist group.
Though the terrorist group has suffered huge blows, it still maintains active terror cells in southern and central Somalia which continues to stage deadly attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, and other regions of Somalia.
