13th January 2016, Turkish forces conducted a mop-up operation in the country’s capital Ankara arresting 16 suspected members of Takfiri Daesh terrorist group.
The militants group had formed an active terror cell intended to carry out a major terrorist attack in the Turkish capital.
Turkish police sources reveal that the militant’s ringleader, a Turkish national was arrested during the mop-up operation on a café Ankara’s bustling and shop-lined Tunali Hilmi Street.
The rest , are all Syrian national citizens and were detained in separate operations across the Cubuk, Polatli, and Sincan neighborhoods of the capital.
The mop-up operation report came on same day (Tuesday 12th January 2016) a terrorist attack was carried out in the Turkish tourist city of Istanbul.
Reports point a Syrian national linked to ISIS terrorist group was involved in the suicide mission that left at least 10 foreign nationals dead and 15 others wounded. Most of those who perished from the blast were German nationals.
Following the Istanbul blast, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on the international community to demonstrate strong determination in the fight against terrorism.
“International terrorism has once again showed itself, with its horrible and inhuman face,” Merkel told a news conference in Berlin.
