The Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has built the country’s first prototype helicopter expected to take flight test later this year.
The new generation, twin-engine multi-purpose helicopter is made to endure adverse weather conditions.
The multi-purpose helicopter program also known as the Original Helicopter Program envisioned to meet the Turkish Air Force as well as other security institutions. It was launched in June 2010 by the Defense Industry Executive Committee.
In 2013, TAI and the Turkish Under Secretariat for Defense Industries signed a contract for the production of T625 helicopters.
The Helicopter will serve multiple services such as cargo and VIP transportation, ambulance purposes, off-shore search and rescue operations.
It has a capacity of airlifting 14 passengers including two pilots at a time. Designed for both domestic and international markets, the aircraft incorporates several new technology features to provide the highest levels of safety and operational benefits for operators.
The program is systematic and scheduled to complete its first flight later this year and begin successive production after 2021.
