Joint operations between Rwandan and Mozambican troops in the village of Nanquidunga village, Mocímboa da Praia district killed a Tanzania terrorist. The terrorist was shot dead and has since been identified as Tuahili Muhidine from Tanzania who is believed to have orchestrated attacks in the province.
Tuahil Muhidim led a 2020 attack that captured Mocimboa da Praia, the northern port used to receive cargo for multi-billion-dollar gas projects in the region. He was also accused of kidnapping two Brazilian nuns for more than three weeks in 2020.
Preliminary intelligence revealed that he was shot alongside another terrorist and two guns were recovered by security forces. The troops have said that the militancy has been weekend and short of supplies which have led to the growing trends of looting and arson in Cabo Delgado.
Rwanda and the 16-nation Southern African Development Community (SADC) sent in 2020 to help Mozambique quell the unrest.
