Tourism Industry in Kenya has once again assured tourists and investors of their safety and security as Kenya intensifies security along its borders, coastal regions and around the country.
This comes at a time when tourism industry in Kenya is experiencing great shake-ups due to terror threats and subsequent travel advisories issued by several foreign governments to their citizens.
However, the country’s security forces and special intelligence teams have clarified that most of these threats are initiated by terrorists who are using such propaganda to instill fear and fight the country’s economy.

This comes after the World Tourism Organization (WTO) Secretary General, Dr Taleb Rifai stated that Kenya is Africa’s top tourist hub and the international community ought to join hands in fighting terror which has threatened the peace and stability of the country.
Kenya’s future in tourism is bright, added the WTO Chief. He further said United Nations system will support the country in achieving its goals.
Tourists being threatened by attacks, which have now become a global challenge are therefore being assured of their security despite the image being portrayed by other media.
Media’s Role in Tourism
Local and international media has on the other hand been advised to shy away from negative publicity of the country as the government continues to revive various industries, tourism in Kenya being one of them.
The tourism sector largely depends on the media. Therefore, highlighting terror activities which could instill fear in tourists has negative impacts in the industry.
The government is currently working on reviving the lost employment opportunities in the tourism industry in Kenya. This will ensure that more avenues are opened in the country’s secure destinations to promote Kenya’s jewel-tourism.
