Nkaissery said Saleh will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing security and peace initiatives.
CS Joseph Nkaissery expressed his expectations that Mohammed Saleh, who also worked as a DC will work closely with the leadership of the region to deal with security challenges which include radicalization of youths, ethnic conflicts and smuggling of goods along the Kenya-Somalia border.

Saleh’s appointment follows the interdiction of senior Northeastern administrative officers and county commanders over heightened insecurity.
Speaking at the same event, CS Joseph Nkaissery warned social media users against sending and distributing alarmist terror alerts of imminent terrorist attacks that stir the public into unnecessary unrest.

He echoed the warning of intelligence experts that terrorists could be using such messages to distract police and intelligence teams on their planned attacks in the country.
Intelligence experts had earlier promised that the Kenyan government is in the final stages of establishing a central Terrorism Public Alert System, the only department that will be allowed to communicate relevant messages for national preparation and planning against such attacks.
