Total SA of France has been granted a license to explore oil in the deepwater Block L22 in Lamu area of the Kenyan coast, the government of Kenya has announced.
The production sharing agreement has Total SA operating Block L22 with its shares at 100%
The Block L22 in the Lamu basin offshore Kenya lies near Somalia and is part of the disputed oil prospecting areas by Kenya and Somalia.
According to the information collected from official sources, Total SA signed a production sharing contract with the Kenya government for deepwater Block L22 in the Lamu basin offshore Kenya.
The block is located offshore Lamu Archipelago where the water depth is between 2,000 and 3,500 meters deep hence Total SA will conduct deepsea 3D seismic survey initially.
