Mortar shells rain down on Dhusamareb city after Somali president, prime minister, senior officials arrive for conference. Explosions from be mortar shells were reported in Dhusamareb airport for the second time in less than 24hrs as Somalia Federal leaders including President Farmajo, Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Jubaland and South West state leaders were all in the town for talks to end political crisis over elections.
Dhusamareb, is the capital of Galmudug state in central Somalia that also serves as the administrative capital of the Galguduud province. Key town which has hosted a number of high-profile meetings aimed at solving electoral problems is located in the heart of Dhusamareb District is one of the largest cities in the Galguduud region and is a rapidly developing city located in the heart of Somalia.
Al-Shabaab claimed the latest series of attacks that with no doubt were aimed at key Somali leaders. At least 10 mortar shells were fired in a span of ten minutes. A clash was reported between the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab and the Somalia national army who claimed to have killed three Al-Shabaab fighters and recovering four AK47 rifles.
Al-Shabaab on Monday killed a number of people including a police officer were wounded after mortar attacks targeting Dhusamareb in central Somalia shortly after arrival of Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble in the town for talks.
Dhusamareb is hosting a conference between the country’s next leaders over the electoral impasse.
The militant group on Sunday killed at least 15 people and at least 20 others were injured. In the Somali capital Mogadishu, killed at least 10 people, including a former army general and former defense minister Mohamed Nuur Galal.
