Hezbollah has mounted a successful operation that has led to the recapture majority of Islamic State-held pockets on the Syrian side of her border with Lebanon. The offensive was conducted in a joint effort with the Syrian Army with the Daesh retreating and yielding to a truce talk that likely guarantees a military victory. Hezbollah, which is Iran-backed has been fighting in a joint effort with the Syrian troops to run off the militants from the western region of the Syria.
The offensive that has lasted close to a week was met by a series of fortunate happenstances as the Lebanese had launched an attack against ISIS on the side during the same period cornering the militants on all sides. The operation has been viewed as a resounding victory seeing as the collaboration between Hezbollah, Syria and Lebanon is unlikely as it would jeopardize Lebanon’s position with the US who classify Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
Following the victory at least 80% of the territory held by the militants has been recaptured by the Syrian forces and the remaining is expected to give in in due time. According to intelligence reports, ISIS has lost its footing both in Iraq and Syria and is projected to be on the way to a downfall that will give way for rebuilding and restoration of the mostly unstable Middle East.
