Ethiopian authorities on Thursday arrested a man transporting more than 500,000 dollars in cash in Oromia State, in the Eastern region of the country. The money recovered is said to have been $100 notes and was transporting to the region which is already unstable. According to human intelligence on the ground, the money is being channeled to the grassroots where clashes and bombings have been experienced in recent weeks.
The region has been under a state of emergency since October 2016, and the Ethiopian parliament only voted to lift it earlier in the month.
The man arrested, is said to have been a courier for elements within the country seeking to advance their agenda with domestic tourism. Ethiopia has seen elements of both local and internationally-affiliated terror networks trying to establish bases in the country.
