The Al-Qaeda official branch, the Al-Nusra Front has announced its termination of all its ties with parent group Al-Qaeda.
On Thursday 28th July 2016, in an online interview with a Qatar-based television network, the group’s leader Abu Muhammad al-Golani said the ties with Al Qaeda had been dissolved saying that his group would on its own will continue fighting the "Conquest of Damascus Front".
al-Golani said in their new "Conquest of Damascus Front" Al-Nusra Front would have no links to any other foreign groups.
Nusra Front, founded in 2012 in Syria, was one of the leading opposition groups fighting against the regime across the war-torn country.
The group had been loyal to Al Qaeda terrorist network and when asked to swear allegiance to Daesh leader Muhammad Baghdadi, it announced loyalty to Al-Qaeda after which the U.S. listed the group as a terrorist organization.
Both Al Qaeda and Al-Nusra Front are currently in the terror list of the United Nations Security Council.
