On Friday 29th July 2016, Somali’s army commandos conducted night counter-terrorism operations targeting Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM) terrorist’s positions in Abdi Dhore about 40 kilometers west Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland, southern Somalia.
Military Intelligence reports show Al-Shabaab terrorists had set up a camp in the region and a checkpoint that they used to extort locals.
The army commandos also known as ‘Danab’ conducted ground operations destroying the militant’s base and recovering assortment of weapons and other military supplies from the checkpoint.
Initial battle damage assessment (BDA) show that, the make-shift base was completely destroyed, approximately 3 ‘technicals’ vehicles decommissioned, and a unspecified number of militants killed in the sortie.
Corresponding HUMINT reports from assets in Lower Jubba region confirm Al-Shabaab suffered heavy causalities during the night raid that caught them unaware.
SNA and AMISOM troops have stepped up military operations in Lower Jubba region of southern Somalia which still harbours Al-Shabaab elements.
